The Second Coming: Captain Ibrahim Traoré and the Eternal Seduction of Power
If you don't believe in hope, just look to this young, charismatic leader who puts the people first. Not his people — for we all belong to God — but all peoples of the land.
✨ It gives me joy to see that kind of spirit in one so young.
But I speak too soon.
We’ve seen this script before — just with different actors.
There was a time when a young Daniel arap Moi brought hope, before the years layered over his legacy with the forgettable dust of complacency and fear.
We’ve seen a young Mobutu Sese Seko, full of promise, then consumed by the gold-tipped flames of power.
🇱🇾 Libya once danced to the dreams of a youthful Muammar Gaddafi, a man who stormed in with a heart full of revolution and left behind a legacy full of contradictions.
And if you'd like this play on steroids?
Idi Amin.
Uganda will not soon forget. 🫢
You see, power — true, raw power — is seductive.
Not the power that money buys, but the kind that attracts money, commands attention, shapes destinies.
That kind of power is dangerous — not just to those who face it, but to those who wield it.
It can corrupt the best of men.
It can whisper in their ears that they are special, chosen, indispensable.
🗣️ Side note:
Have you ever had that one friend or coworker who was just about the nicest person this side of the universe...
...till they got that promotion? 😏
Y’all know what I’m talking about?
That’s like a smidget of power — not even real or raw power.
Just power.
Yeah! Think about that one. LOL!
Captain Ibrahim Traoré is no fool. He must know this.
And perhaps he is the one who will resist.
Perhaps.
But time and deed will decide this promising young man's legacy.
That — and fate. 🎭
There is something beautiful in this moment for Burkina Faso.
It feels like a second coming of their beloved Thomas Sankara — sharp-minded, deeply principled, and unshakably people-first.
And yet we, the people of Africa, must hold our breath and our hope in balance.
For history is not a straight line,
and men are not always who they seem when their boots are still new.
We must watch not with blind loyalty, but with clear, discerning eyes.
👏 Celebrate his bravery, yes.
🙏 But pray that the Captain does not become the General.
That the man does not become the myth.
Because Africa cannot afford another fallen star.
Not this time.
